Battle of Wigan LI Scenario

Battle of Wigan LI Scenario

Postby jeffb » Tue Mar 09, 2010 6:48 pm

Just a quick question. How big would the rugby pitch be for LI? Gonna do a scenario with the Martians landing in Wigan and surrounding area. Part of the scenery would be Central Park, the original home of Wigan RLFC. I have a few pics of what it looked like in the 1900's, just need a 2mm Rugby pitch.

Edit:I'll be using Skirmish Infantry as Rugby players

Cheers and appreciation.

Jeff

Nice idea, I like it a lot!

Funny, I had a LI Polo match in mind.

That is so very, very cool. I am utterly convinced to play Tank Polo in 6mm scale now! Are there any existing rules for playing miniture polo?

If you make your stadium to the same scale as the models (1/1200th) then that works out at 4ft = 1mm. I'm not sure exactly how big a rugby pitch is, but if it's 100yards then that would be 75mm long. Apparently there's no set height for the posts, but current international posts are 50 feet high (so a scale half inch), 19 feet wide (~5mm) and the crossbar is 10 feet (2.5mm) off the ground.

For interest, football pitch dimensions are here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/rules_and_equipment/4200666.stm
The goal is 8 feet (2mm) high and 24 feet (6mm) wide.

But in Victoria's era it would be cricket old boy, surely !? Cricket pitches are 22 yards (16.5mm) long and about 10 feet (2.5mm) wide. The outfield can vary wildly in size and shape from very small village grounds with 40 yard boundaries and duckponds in the corner to international grounds with 100-yard boundaries.
