Even more fun with Sketchup!

Postby javelin98 » Tue Apr 10, 2012 5:48 am

For my latest madness, I couldn't resist taking a shot at translating the cool new Polish half-tracks into 15mm. I also learned recently about applying custom textures to the model, so I made up some camo swatches in Powerpoint and applied them here. I think it worked out pretty well.

I wasn't sure what to do with the panels on the top and front, so I just left them plain. I'm open to suggestions, of course!

And here's the latest iteration of my scratchbuilt VTOL transport, the Mi-38 HERMIT:

Simply suoerb!! The painted vesrions are spectacular! The VTOL looks amazing too, with models like that you you could maake a computerized version of Iron Cow, and it'd look top notch. :D

You're getting pretty good at this, Javelin ! I've only modelled so far, no texturing - but what you've done adds another dimension. Perfect for the first edition of the Iron Cow Vehicle Recognition Guide.

That would be so awesome, I would buy it. Identification guides rock! Sort of like the Terran Trade Alliance books of the 70's. That would be nifty.

Thanks, Tony! Last night I worked up the RFAC turret; I'll post pics of that later. I noticed, too, that I forgot to add smoke grenade launchers, so I'll have to take care of that.

This Sketchup thing is fun! Almost as much fun as curling up with a Traveller or Battletech technical manual for some light reading...

Here are some quick shots of the rapid-fire autocannon turret:

That's rather good - I might well adopt that as the official design when the 15mm version comes along !

Cool, thanks! Do you think it's too big, though, for an RFAC? I can shrink the whole turret by about 20% and see if that makes it look less like an antitank gun and more like a 30mm autocannon.

Here is the smaller turret, along with some glamour shots I just couldn't resist!
