Vietnam Campaign

The Vietnam campaign has been running, on and off, since 1990. It is based around a fictional infantry company, where members of the club take on the roles of the company officers and squad leaders.

Dependant on the actions of a player’s squad he or she will receive (or lose) victory points, which determine the players standing in the league table and affect the player’s chance of promotion. Company and platoon officers also gain the VPs acquired by their subordinates.

Experience points are awarded for squad members that survive a mission without receiving any wounds; these are used to improve the squad’s ratings. If the squad loses an experienced hand and gets a new recruit as a replacement, the squads experience points will suffer.

Company and Platoon leaders hold their commissions until their character is killed, or in rare cases gets demoted (you really have to foul up to lose rank). If a vacancy arises it is filled by promoting a squad leader (or if a new company commander is required, a platoon leader) based on the standings in the league table, whether the player has previously commanded a platoon, and the umpire’s whim. Squads may be assigned to different platoons in different missions.

We use the Bodycount rules, with some minor amendments. The mechanisms in Bodycount require a large amount of number crunching, so a BASIC language program is used to manage the game. This program also logs events during the game to facilitate post game analysis and the award of Victory and experience points.

1 Sergeant, can have any Free World personal weapon, M16, SMG, Shotgun etc.

Mission 7

Lt. P. Lymath demoted to Sgt.
Sgt P. Richards and Sgt S. Oram promoted to Lieutenant.

Mission 11

Lt R. Medcraft posted to Fort Leavenworth
Sgt D.Shillito promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to Weapons Platoon.

Mission 12

Sgt M. Harris promoted Lt and takes command of Lt P. Richards (deceased) platoon.
Sgt P. Richards II welcomed to the company, and takes over Sgt M. Harris’ squad.

Mission 16

1st Lieutenant B. Simons promoted Captain and assumes command of B Company.
2nd Lieutenant M. Harris promoted 1st Lieutenant and retains command of 1 Platoon.
Sgt M. Woodger promoted 2nd Lieutenant and assumes command of 2 Platoon.
Sgt A. Ockelford promoted 2nd Lieutenant and assumes command of 3 Platoon.
Sgt S. Tucker promoted 2nd Lieutenant and assumes command of 4 (Weapons) Platoon.
