I just found this: http://www.naval-history.net/NAVAL1914-18.htm

Perhaps it can be used as a guide for establishing a fleet's strength. It shows that the Austro-Hungarian Navy, in August of 1914, had:

3 Dreadnoughts, 3 Semi-dreadnoughts , 6 Pre-dreadnought battleships, 4 Coast defence ships, 3 Armoured cruisers, 2 Protected cruisers, 4 Light/scout cruisers, 25 Destroyers, and 6 Submarines.

There were no battlecruisers or aircraft/seaplane carriers in the AH fleet. But, compared with the Turks, they were doing pretty well:

2 Pre-dreadnought battleships, 1 Coast defence ship, 2 Protected cruisers, and 8 Destroyers.

I have to admit I was a bit surprised to see such a large listing for Greece.

I'm not sure that any of these maps are the right scale but they are really fantastic for capturing the mood of the game (imo).

I'm tracking down maps today. I found these:

http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/EART/ams.html

http://archaeology.asu.edu/Jordan/SLevant50k.html

http://grunt.space.swri.edu/visit/maps/maps.htm

http://www.clearwatertarn.co.nz/New_Zealand_Maps/NZ_topographical_maps/NZ_topographical_maps_1.html

Some are 1:50000 scale.

And…

http://www.multimap.com/

has a "Zoom to 1:50000" function.

For battles over England, there would be the maps of this series:

http://www.mapstore.co.uk/series/index.cfm/SeriesID=2

I wonder if there's anyone with enough gaming space to lay all of them out…

Carriers were still in infancy during this period in the real world, and I'm not sure the term "Battlecruiser" existed yet. Not that this is stopping me from doing a AH hull in that range...

I took a day or two off from what seemed to be a Link-a-Day trend to work on a 1:50000 poster (1.219m x 1.828m) map of the area around Philadelphia, PA.

I knew I'd get around to this one sooner or later. I am very curious to know what Nefs look like on the inside. I doubt I'll take to time to mock-up deck plans for any ship in the near future but here's what I'd use as a guide:

http://www.dd-692.com/shipyard.htm

Scroll down to "1960's FRAM II Deck, Cross Section & Starboard View Plans" before you give up on this site.

This is a kind off 'official' webiste resource in that we have used Griffith's anti-grav stystem and his Solar System for the Aeronef and Captain's Handbook:

http://www.forgottenfutures.com/game/ff2/

You can download the stuff here, but I really urge people to buy the CD-ROM off Marcus Rowland as there is TONS more material on it and the money goes to charity.

Today's website just has too much information to accurately describe in blurb form.

http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/

It shows the navies of the world (many of which from during the period of interest) for the Big Six and…

ARGENTINA, AUSTRALIA, BELGIUM, BRAZIL, CANADA, CHILE, CHINA, DENMARK, GREECE, INDIA, ITALY, KUWAIT, LIBYA, MALTA, NETHERLANDS, NEW ZEALAND, NORWAY, PAKISTAN, POLAND, PORTUGAL, SPAIN, SWEDEN, SOUTH AFRICA, TURKEY, and URUGUAY.

Yes it does thanks!

I want a few of those - the Portsmouth areas and adjacent maps would be great for Battle of Britain and defending the Fleet Anchorage (and have my old house on it!) Very Happy

thanks!
