I've been somewhat curious about a Chinese fleet (for longer than I've known about Aeronef, in fact). Most of the battleships and cruisers of the Beiyang Fleet were either of British or German manufacture. They also had gunboats and torpedo boats.

Imperial corruption combined with significant lack in both military organization and training contributed to Chinese naval defeats. Related factors ultimately led to the formation of the Eight-Nation Alliance (The Big Seven and Italy).

If there was a strong leader for the Chinese military and if Empress Dowager Tzu Hsi hadn't used the money set aside for the construction of ten new warships to celebrate her own 60th birthday — what might have happened?…

The ships in the fleet at the time of the first Sino-Japanese War included: Tsi Yuen, Kuang Chia, Chih Yuen, King Yuen, Ting Yuen, Chen Yuen, Lai Yuen, Ching Yuen, Chao Yung, Yang Wei, Kuang Ping, and Ping Yuen.

These ships were probably (in Aeronef terms) quite a bit like the German Moltke class Battlecruiser and the British Rawalpindi Class Colonial Cruiser. In many ways, they'd look a lot like a Turkish fleet, I suppose.

Thoughts?

I have and I think they're fantastic. I've been wondering what was used to get the Chinese characters on those models. Please tell me that's not hand-painted.

In addition, imagine China had an entirely new design concept for its Nefs — if the Empress Dowager hadn't spent military funds on the Summer Palace. Would we see something like this?…

You could try "do it yourself decals" - I have been experimenting with water slide decals that you print at home on the ink jet
