So whilst he was tucking into venison and port I was making do with a scotch egg and a sandwich from the local Sainsburys.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Tony had kindly volunteered my services to produce the current\u00a0<a title=\"Maidstone Wargames Society\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brigademodels.co.uk\/mws\/\">Maidstone Wargames Society<\/a>\u00a0show game (something to do with it being 2014 and our Belgian range being my idea). I settled on a small encounter between German and Belgian infantry in an un-named\u00a0town &#8220;Somewhere in Belgium&#8221; in August 1914. The scenery would all be scratch-built (including a rather spiffy 3D printed <a title=\"bandstand\" href=\"http:\/\/www.shapeways.com\/model\/1230612\/bandstand.html?li=search-results&amp;materialId=6\">bandstand<\/a>\u00a0by Tony) with <a title=\"our own Belgian figures\" href=\"http:\/\/brigademodels.co.uk\/GreatWar28\/index.html\">our own Belgian figures<\/a> taking on Germans from Renegade Miniatures and Great War Miniatures. The Germans because they made it to the end of the table and there were only two Belgians left who were not casualties or prisoners. The Belgians because it had taken the Germans all day to get to the end of the table whilst losing around\u00a0forty-five men and because there were still two\u00a0of their men\u00a0left to carry on the fight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Last Belgians standing\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brigademodels.co.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Last-Belgians-standing-1024x760.jpg\" width=\"565\" height=\"419\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Germans decided to stop early on and engage in a long range rifle duel which the Belgians amazingly won. Fortunately there are some better ones on Clint Burnett&#8217;s blog <a title=\"here\" href=\"http:\/\/clint-anythingbutaone.blogspot.co.uk\/2014\/02\/cavalier-14.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The game will be getting its next outing at <a title=\"Salute\" href=\"http:\/\/www.salute.co.uk\">Salute<\/a> in April (table GM19 if you want to come and have a look).
