Age of Tyrants

AgeofTyrants Logo

Last week we featured Polyversal, Collins Epic Wargames’ 6mm mass combat game which features some of our models in the Kickstarter campaign. Today we’re looking at another current Kickstarter with which we are involved, Age of Tyrants. This only has a short while left to run (less than two days when this post appears) so if you want to back the project, don’t wait around ! Age of Tyrants is a mass combat 6mm SF game, like Polyversal, but in a different style – the game has its own miniatures which feature lots of very big tanks as well as infantry.

Our involvement in this game is supplying buildings from our existing 6mm ranges. We’ve set up several packs which can be added to your pledges

Kicking Off the Season

Salute 2015_800x600

Our first show of 2016 is Cavalier in Tonbridge, in just under two weeks’ time. This is a show we haven’t been to for a few years, which is daft since it’s only a few miles down the road! For this show we have smaller stand than normal which will affect what we can display and the stock we’re able to bring. We’re hoping to cram as much as we can behind the stand, and the plan is to bring the following:

  • Aeronef – starter packs and fleet packs, no individual models
  • Spaceships – fleet packs only, no individual models
  • 15mm – full range of vehicles and figure packs, no buildings
  • 6mm – army and company packs, buildings, no individual vehicles
  • Celtos – full range of packs and individual models
  • 2mm Buildings – full range
  • Great War Belgians – full range
  • Magpie Miniatures – full range
  • Shapeways – full range

Not everything will be on display, so you might need to ask to see some items.

Unfortunately carrying full stock of models for all of the ranges will simply require too much space, so if you would like any individual spaceships, Aeronef or 6mm vehicles, 15mm buildings or anything from ranges which aren’t listed above, please contact us before the show with your requirements and we’ll bring them with us.

Polish 6mm Infantry Released

We previewed our new 6mm infantry a few weeks ago, and the first pack has hit the website today. The Polish Infantry are near-future in style with open-faced helmets and assault rifles, along with RPG-style anti-tank weapons and light machine guns.

SF300-1370

Each pack of 24 figures has enough figures to make three identical squads of a squad leader, five riflemen, a SAW and an anti-tank weapon. There are three different riflemen poses so that your units won’t look too uniform.

SF300-1370-1

SF300-1370 – Polish Infantry Platoon – £2.75

All Polish packs that contain infantry will now contain the new figures instead of the older generic ones.

Polyversal

Polyversal is a 6mm Sci-Fi mass combat miniatures game system by Collins Epic Wargames, compatible with all 6mm miniatures by means of a customisation and design system.

Polyversal

The reason we’re flagging it up on out blog is that there is currently a Kickstarter running to support development and release of the game, and in the starter box you will get a number of our 6mm SF models.

Polyv-1

The campaign got off to a good start and runs for another seven weeks or so, with an aim to shipping in November. Don’t worry, we’ll remind you nearer the time 🙂

Suburban Bliss

Most of our Small Scale Scenery range is made up of 19th and very early 20th century buildings, due to its initial origins as an offshoot of our Aeronef and Land Ironclads ranges. Today we’re adding some more up-to-date buildings in the form of a 1960s housing estate. It’s made up of a mix of semi-detached and detached houses, along with the obligatory row of convenience stores and takeaways. It’s a mature estate where the residents have gradually upgraded their houses, with the houses featuring a collection of garages, extensions, conservatories and porches that make them all slightly different.

SSS-8066

Although the houses are modelled on an English development, the buildings would be eminently suitable for post-war estates in other European countries.

SSS-8066 – Housing Estate – £6.00

USS Lexington

The Lexington is one of the new models we pledged to produce as a result of the Imperial Skies Kickstarter campaign. It’s a battlecruiser class, and we decided to do something a bit different, going for a cross between a Civil War ironclad and a stealth submarine ! It has four very large main guns in semi-circular armoured citadels, a broadside battery of secondaries either side and two aerial torpedoes.

These are screen grabs of the 3D model, it won’t be going off for printing until the other three models are ready.

New Polish Half-Tracks

Today’s new release is three new Suwalska half-track variants for our 15mm Polish force.

Two are fire-support variants with a heavier gun in a fixed superstructure. The ‘Młot’ model has a short barrelled howitzer, mainly used in support of infantry and ideal for taking out entrenched enemy with its potent HE round.

PolishSupportRelease

The ‘Łucznik’ model has a high-velocity light anti-tank gun. This is ideal for taking on light armoured vehicles such as APCs or armoured cars, although it’s not capable of handling main battle tanks.

The third new model is an armoured command vehicle, the ‘Hetman’, with a small twin-MG turret for self-defence, and a radar dish capable of communicating with orbiting command satellites.

SF15-1303f

All three variants are on our website now.
SF15-1303f – Suwalska ‘Hetman’ Command Vehicle – £8.00
SF15-1303g – Suwalska ‘Łucznik’ Anti-Tank – £8.00
SF15-1303h – Suwalski ‘Młot’ Fire-Support – £8.00

The variant names have been updated post-release thanks to some very helpful feedback from TMP members Kadrinazi and Awuuuu. Never rely on online translations for unfamiliar languages…

Show Business 2016

We’ve been compiling our show calendar for the coming year now that the Christmas holiday is out of the way. We’re planning to attend all of the shows we went to last year, and have a couple of additions to the list.

Salute 2015_800x600

We kick off with one of these – we’re returning to Cavalier in Tonbridge for the first time in a few years at the end of February. This has been a last minute booking and we’re grateful to the organiser Alan Butler for slotting us in. We have a smaller stand than usual so we’ll have to decide what we take with us – there won’t be room for everything.

The other new show in our calendar takes us oop north, to the Joy of Six in Sheffield in July. This (as the name suggests) is a 6mm themed event, so again we’ll have a smaller stand with all of the 6mm range and maybe a few other bits and pieces.

We will of course take orders in advance for anything that we aren’t able to take to these or any other show – simply send us an email with what you require, or you can order and pay via the website using the ‘Collect in Person’ shipping option.

Full details of our show list, along with the ranges that we bring to each one, can be found on the website ‘Shows’ page.

The Start of the War

The first shots of the American Civil War were fired by Confederate artillery at Fort Sumter in South Carolina in 1861. The fort sits in Charleston harbour and is a five-sided brick structure, similar in layout to our Fort Pulaski model, although with higher walls.

Sumter

Two battles were fought over it, imaginatively named the First and Second Battles of Fort Sumter. The Confederates took the fort from the Union in the first battle and despite an attempt to recapture it in 1863 (the second battle, when it was pretty much reduced to rubble) it remained in Confederate hands for the duration of the war.

Our new Sumter model is part of our Small Scale Scenery range – ideal for Aeronef, Land Ironclads or other 2mm or 1/1200th scale games. The main part of the fort is a single-piece resin casting, and it also has a large number of guns on the upper tier which are separate metal pieces. The model represents the fort as it was during the Civil War – nowadays the outline is the same, but in detail the fort is quite different.

SumterRelease

To accompany Fort Sumter, we have a second, somewhat smaller and rather less significant installation from the Charleston area. Fort Palmetto is a rather grand name for what was really only a small 3-gun artillery battery. Palmetto was an earthen redoubt around 160 feet long with a buried magazine. The model would make a good stand-in for other small earth batteries from the Civil War or other periods. I made it because I came across an interesting article with a ground radar and 3D reconstruction of what the position may have looked like.

SSS-8064 – Fort Sumter – £9.00
SSS-8065 – Fort Palmetto – £1.50

Ice Station Brigade

Now we’re back to normality, we can show you some new items that are due for release in the near future. Today we have some new 15mm buildings which make up a scientific research station. I can imagine them being used in a bleak, snowy environment, painted orange to stand out against the background. They’re a little like squared-off, corrugated Nissen huts for the future so could also see service as barracks blocks.

There are four pieces in the set, but for some strange reason I only photographed three, so you’ll have to make do with these and we’ll leave the last one as a surprise for when they’re released.

RS-Shed

The release date is likely to be 3-4 weeks away – the models are just about to go into moulds (hence the plastic card bases which are part of the mould-making process). Each building will be available individually and we’ll also create a pack with several buildings plus some accessories.
