Desert Towers Released

Today we’re adding the last of the new Salute items to the website, plus an extra bonus item.

We have three larger towers in our 6mm Desert Buildings range, all of which are one piece resin castings with small metal accessories in the form of rooftop aerials. These share the same characteristics as the rest of the desert range – solid cast construction with few, if any, windows to keep out the vicious Martian sandstorms. I find that coming up with descriptive names for buildings is always tricky, the best I can manage is generic terms like ‘large square tower’ – so apologies for that! The buildings are available singly or in a pack with one of each. And while we’re on desert building packs, we’ve created another bundle of some of the existing buildings that aren’t already in one of the other sets under the title of ‘Large Dwellings Pack’.

May2016Release

As a bonus, we also have the domed radar building we teased you with before Salute. I’ve made a new mould which works much better than the original so we’re now happy to release it (although the painted model below is from the original mould – the damaged part of the model is out of sight in this view).

BP300-104 – Large Desert Dwellings- £15.00
BP300-105 – Desert Towers – £14.00

B300-133 – Large Tower – £6.00
B300-134 – Square Tower with Dome – £5.00
B300-135 – Square Tower – £4.50
B300-136 – Radar Dome Bunker – £3.00

Jutland refight

Today we’d like to give some publicity to an upcoming charity event. This is a refight of Jutland (a historical version rather than our Aeronef one !) in aid of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines charity. It’s taking place at HMS Flying Fox, a Royal Naval Reserve base in Bristol. Participants are being sought, contact details are on the poster below.

We’ve made a very modest contribution towards supporting the event, supplying identification flags for the models.

As mentioned before Salute, our 15mm Neo-Soviet forces are gaining several new packs of conscript infantry. There are four packs altogether – infantry (9 figures – six riflemen, squad leader, rocket launcher and LMG), support weapons (8 figures – 2-man missile squad, two 2-man gatling teams, plasma gun and sniper) and command (6 figures including a splendidly-hatted Kommissar and a comms specialist with satellite backpack). The final pack is a 32-man platoon which consists of two infantry and one of each of the other packs.

Trouble at t’Mill

15mm gamers have had it all their own way with the last couple of new releases, so it’s time for a change of pace, scale and era.

WarehouseRelease

Today’s new items are from an era of Charles Dickens, tyrannical mill owners and child labour – what’s not to like? In the Small Scale Scenery range we have three new industrial models – a large Victorian warehouse, a Textile Mill and a set of three dockside warehouses.

All are one piece resin castings and are based as on real-world prototypes around the UK.

SSS-8069 – Victorian Warehouse – £3.50
SSS-8070 – Textile Mill – £3.50
SSS-8071 – Dockside Warehouses (x3) – £3.50

Iron Fist

Following hard on the heels of Friday’s new 15mm Fasolini figures, we stay in the same scale but get a bit heavier in terms of hardware today.

Most powerful of all is the Henschel Pz266 Eisenfaust (Iron Fist) laser tank, a large blower tank equipped with a heavy turreted laser and a secondary autocannon in a ball mount on the glacis plate. It’s protected by a sandwich of sapphire and alloy armour, with an explosive close-in defence belt around the hull.

HS15-311

Much bigger and bulkier is the Schützenpanzer Pz441 platoon carrier, also manufactured by Henschel. Known as the Kastenwagen (Box Van) by the troops that use it, the Pz441 carries a full platoon of 24 infantry in its capacious rear compartment. Access is via two large side doors which drop down to form ramps and allow the infantry to disembark very rapidly (possibly because they would be sitting ducks if they remained in the now open troop compartment !). Armament consists of the same autocannon as the Eisenfaust, mounted on the roof of the driver’s cab.

HS15-312

Our final model for today is the Gamelin wheeled tank used by EuroFed rapid reaction forces to provide armoured support to the lighter Catroux AFVs. Armour is lighter than a conventional tank, but it still packs a hefty punch.

SF15-407

HS15-311 – Henschel Pz266 ‘Eisenfaust’ Laser Tank – £10.00
HS15-312 – Henschel Pz441 ‘Kastenwagen’ Platoon APC – £9.00
SF15-407 – Gamelin Wheeled Tank – £8.00

Back to Normal

After the rigours of Salute, we’ve had a relatively relaxed week – the workshop has been restored to some semblance of organisation (as much as it ever is !), all outstanding orders have been shipped out and the backlog of emails and other missives dealt with.

Today we’re adding the first of the Salute releases to the website. These are the Fasolini models and figures to make up another Hammer’s Slammers-themed force. There are two complete detachment packs that match the lists on the HS website, two tracked guns and six packs of figures.

Last Minute Additions

I’ve been tinkering over recent weeks with some of the remaining unreleased former ArmiesArmy moulds. In fact, some of the moulds we have are for items that as far as we know were never released, which includes these. In ArmiesArmy service these would have been RUSK Militia troops, but we’ve co-opted them into our Neo-Soviet army as conscript troops. There are three packs – infantry (squad leader, SAW gunner, AT rocket and six riflemen), command (six assorted figures including a splendidly-hatted kommissar) and support weapons (AT missile team, two man-portable gatling teams, sniper and a short-barrelled energy weapon). We’ve had some issues with one of the original moulds which we’ll have to remake, but we’ve managed to squeeze out a small amount of stock for tomorrow from the original one.

The photos below are from ArmiesArmy’s originals – so the pack contents aren’t exactly the same as we’ll be selling, but at least you get to see what the figures look like.

We also have a small amount of stock of their companion Guard figures with the same trio of infantry, command and support packs.

And lastly, we are taking some stock of Angel Barracks‘ excellent 6mm character pack containing thirty superb sci-fi figures.

I’m off to London this afternoon to begin setting up the stand, and we look forward to seeing you from 10am tomorrow.

Something for the Smaller Gamer

For the smaller scale gamer, there’s no heightism here at Brigade. Four more new moulds were uncorked yesterday, containing a selection of 6mm scale buildings in our Desert range. The first three are a selection of assorted towers to give a bit more variation in height to a desert cityscape. They come with a random selection of small metal aerials that fit to the top. We’re thinking of adopting one as the our new HQ – the real Brigade Towers.

DSC_0158

Building number four came into being as a result of some of the comments on our 15mm moonbase and its resemblance to Fylingdales Moor radar housing. So I’ve created a facetted geodome to house a radar and fitted it to a desert style bunker, a model which should nicely complement our existing Control Tower model. Sadly I’m only teasing with this one, as the mould was damaged and the castings aren’t up to scratch, which is a shame as it’s a rather nice model. The mould will have to be remade and released after the show (only a couple of weeks or so).

The Goodies Keep On Coming

I cracked open two more new moulds today, both the hulls of 15mm vehicles. The metal turrets were in a different mould which Phil delivered at the end of last week, so after a very quick bit of resin casting I was able to assemble a sample of each.

The first, and largest is a Henschel APC to accompany the new tank with which it shares a number of design details – it’s also derived from the Forlorn Hope novel by David Drake. It’s a huge model, designed to carry an entire platoon of troops, or 24 men. They disembark by a rather novel method; when the vehicle arrives at the correct place, the giant doors on either side of the vehicle drop down to form ramps. The conscripts on board can either quickly evacuate the vehicle, or remain on board as sitting ducks – the choice is theirs! The vehicle is armed with a remote autocannon, and the troops on board can also use their assault rifles from five firing ports built into the side doors.

DSC_1653-800x450

DSC_1656-800x450

The second vehicle is rather more conventional. It’s a 15mm version of the EuroFed Gamelin wheeled tank, which provides heavy fire support to assault units of the Legion Etranger. It’s effectively a wheeled medium tank, armed with a high-velocity cannon and coaxial support weapon. The 10-wheeled chassis is very resistant to damage, being able to continue running with as few as three wheels per side. Armour isn’t as comprehensive as a main battle tank in order to keep weight down, but lightweight composites still afford it a reasonable level of protection.

DSC_1652-800x450

I’ve assembled some more of the Fasolini mobile gun units, this time with crew figures. One useful tip I discovered is that on both gun models, the crew figure needs to be fitted to the seat before the gun(s) are attached. The handgrips on the single barrelled weapon will also need to be trimmed back. The painted models of gun and transporter trucks are finished, and I think look pretty good.

Not Everything Always Goes to Plan !

Today I was supposed to be posting about more Salute releases – some merchant spaceships, to be precise. We think the masters looked lovely (see below to decide for yourselves).

Merch-1

Merch-2

Sadly the mould didn’t play ball :-(. This happens sometimes – we can get castings out of the mould, but they aren’t as good as we would like so we don’t think we can sell them as they are. There’s no time now to try again (the masters don’t always survive the mould-making process, and one or two of these will need a slight redesign anyway) so sadly we won’t have them on Saturday. However, I don’t intend on wasting any time and will be trying to get them remade and released within a few weeks.

There is still some more Salute new release news to come later in the week, so keep watching this blog.

Now I do have a very important reminder – you now have slightly less than two days to get in any last-minute pre-orders for the show. I’ll be doing the last casting for Salute on Wednesday, so I need any final show orders (whether pre-paid or pay-on-the-day) by the end of Tuesday at the latest so I can plan my casting for the next day.

And last of all … here are some painted tanks ! Three Henschel beasties, all ready for their Army Painter dip. Two for gaming and one for the display stand on Saturday.
